I am a new subscriber and I'm shure this was asked before, I am replacing my stock fuel pump with a FASS fuel system on my 99 DODGE and concerned about proplems I would have with the installation or the VP 44 diaphragm. I have about 170,000 mi on the OEM fuel pump but recently incounterd intermitent hard start problems. Is there any information on replacing the VP 44 diaphragm. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Yes - the "information" is that the parts for a VP-44 are NOT a Pep Boys or Grand auto item - only authorized Bosch rebuilders have them, and THEY can't/won't sell them over the counter. Even if they did, replacement of the diaphragm essentially requires total teardown of the pump, and lots of other O-rings and such that also would need to be replaced.

It's NOT a backyard, shadetree job to dig inside a VP-44... ;)

First of all... welcome to the TDR. There is a wealth of information here and I'm sure you joined because of that. Information is free and we all try to do the best we can to help a fellow Cummins owner find his or her way through all the data that has been compiled. Some of the answers you might receive may not be presented in a courteous fashion and you will need to make your own judgements with certain individuals.

You will find the 'search' feature very helpful regarding the VP-44, though it may take weeks of reading through all the threads to become comfortable with all of the information available.

Take a moment and discover the 'user' panel to fill in your signature. It will help in the future for those of us to understand your particular CTD (Cummins Turbo Diesel) and provide helpful courteous answers.

There are some great people here on the TDR.

Welcome

William

c1, air getting in fuel system is a cause of hard starting. Part of the fuel return line has a rubber hose that can crack if you have not replaces it is probably a good time to do it. Marine hose rated for diesel seems to be the way to go.
