78,000 miles and VP 44 Injection pump is tites up and leaking thru a cover gasket on top of the pump. Lucky for me I made it home and broke down in the drive. Has any one else had this happen to thier truck. I've called Dodge and was told by service manager that Injection pumps are only warrented if I did not cause the damage and a tank of bad fuel could be considered self inflicted damage. What BS any way Fuel Filter is changed every 5000 miles and Ive never had a bad tank of fuel.

Thanks, Tom

tj , thats typical dealer BS ...

but heres what they are going to do , they are going to go over your truck with a fine tooth comb looking for BOMBS , if they find one they will blame your pump failure on it and hand you a bill for 4k plus .

i wouldn't be surprised if they tryed to blame it on your ray t banjo bolts ... got the originals ? if so put them back .

as far as the fuel goes , does dodge expect us to test every load of fuel before we put it in the tank ? we are unfortunatley stuck hoping the fuel seller is selling us good fuel ...

good luck .

Thanks John,

Yes I've removed Ray T's Banjo bolts and my fuel pressure gauges, replaced the stock air box and in stalled a new Fleet Gaurd Fuel filter. I dont have a Fuel box so the wire harrness has never been touched. I will take my chances with my DD1's and EGT & Boost gauges, and other improvements. After posting about this leak, I hauled my truck down to Cummins Mid South in New Orleans and was told not to touch any thing around the pump because Dodge It would attempt to void the warrenty, Cummins service manager said VP44 is a Bosch item and is non serviceable by Cummins, and advised to settle for nothing less than a new pump. Also this gasket leak on top of VP44 is a first for him.

tj are you worried about your affiliation with the TDR?

Nutter got hung are MM posted the question yesterday.

TDR Police... OH NO

Bob, not worried here the Nazis will have to have pictures of me typing this to prove this is me, I aint even sure of what I look like, or if I am Me, and Carriere, is slap full of Dodge Cummins Trucks. Heck there is 5 - 1 Ton 4x4's on my road alone, 4 are white and 1 is blue. 7 families live on this road and 1 poor guy has a Dura Maxie Pad but he cant laugh his has been at the GMC Dealer for over a month gettig a head job. And the other fellow bought my F-350 Turbo Diesel 4X4 in 99 after I put a new engine in it. Its still running and that young boy sure is proud of his Truck. However not a week goes by that he does'nt ask me to trade Trucks with him. He wants a Cummins some kind of bad.

TJ,

I'm new to the board and haven't done my signature yet, but I have a 1998. 5, 24 valve, 3500, dually 4X4, auto, 3:55 with 76,500 and I did have my injection pump go out at about 60,000. The dealer basically told me the same thing about the bad fuel and I was really scared when I got a call from the dealer and was asked to go to the dealership to look at the fuel they got out of my truck. The fuel was a cloudy and brownish in color and nobody had ever seen anything like it before. Dodge had the diesel tech at the dealership run all kinds of checks on my truck, but in the end, it was covered by the warranty. I called the California and Arizona Departments of Weights and Measures and had the last two stations I got fuel at tested, both came back with reports of acceptable fuel. If it is a problem with the your fuel, you may want to have the stations you last used checked so you have some kind of recourse should Dodge deny warranty work based on that. Good luck and I hope it's covered.

JQRam,

I'm not sure about my truck but I'll be ready and there.

JGort,

Yea Dodge It, trys hard but I've pulled a fuel sample myself and I'am prepared for thier War Games.

Im going to a to Dealer recomened by Mechanic at Cummins.

I just got back from Dodge and the Service Manager & Cummins Mechanic Looked at my Pump, called 5 Star and said they would replace pump and would call if 5 Star had any problems, but that they dont expect any. Heck I didnt even buy my truck from these Guys and they treated me very well even saying that they were sorry for my inconvenience. The new pump most likely wont arrive untill Tuesday, and the Mechanic says its about a 2 Hr. job to install and they will have me running as soon as it gets there. Says that he has replaced at least 20 pumps on the 98. % & 99 Trucks.

Oh yea this is not the same dealer that told me bad fuel is my baby. I recon they keep a jug of rusty fuel on hand to show the customer what they got from his tank
