A buddy of mine changed his lift pump yesterday and is having problems getting the truck started. He called me up looking for suggestions. Did the usual bump the starter several times to purge the air got the fuel pressure gauge to 14-15 psi... . Still won't start... . Cranked while injector line was cracked..... no good. . Very little fuel... . Pulled out the Smarty and read codes... . p1688, p0253 and p0230..... Looks to me as his vp is DOA from looking up the codes. :eek::eek: ... . Anyone have any suggestions before he dumps a grand on a pump?

I should add that we tried cracking the 1,3,4 injector lines. Got very little fuel at all. As a matter of fact, #1, only dripped 3 or 4 drops... . confuseda.gif 3 and 4 only were marginally better... I cleared the codes and tried to start again with the same results... very little fuel at the #1 hole... confuseda.gif Hasn't even burped or farted cranking it over.
Thanks, Phil

If he had no fuel pressure for any length of time, his VP would be ruined. There are two types of failures. Mechanical and electrical;
P230 refers to Lift Pump
P253 Fuel injection Valve Open
P1688 internal Fuel injection controller failure
He has mechanical and Electrical failure due to no fuel and over heating. Suggest Better than factory lift pump.
If he is going stock on the VP, you can find good rebuilt ones on E-bay
Good luck, Rick
