Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Strange Starting Condition

My VP went out finally at 198,000 miles. I have only put 1 lift pump on it in all these miles. I guess I have been lucky. Towed my 2500 4x4 100 miles behind my Avalanche to get to a reputable mechanic. He has VP 44 in stock and the price is $1,200. 00 installed. Shiver's Diesel, Tifton, GA. The truck developed a "hard start" condition, which after a couple of weeks turned into a "no start" condition. No codes though. I am told it is probably a cracked diaphragm inside the VP 44. I am ordering a FASS today or Monday. I am compeltely stock, but plan to add Edge Comp, Injectors, Exhaust, and new Turbo soon. Should I stick with the 95gph, or opt for the same price 150gph for the future mod's? Appreciate the info.

2001 2500, 4x4, SWB, QC, Loaded, GPS Nav, WI-Fi Hotspot Locator, Colt 45 in console.

I installed the FASS II 95gph a couple of months ago, the one with the upgraded spring, and idle @ 24 psi, verified. I can pull it down to 21, according to my gauge, wot. Have not had any hard starts. I have read about guys with the 150 gph upgrading the pickup tube to avoid problems. I am sure you'd be fine with the 95gph.

Have a good one.

The 95gph fass will be more than sufficient for a stock truck. There are only a handful of trucks here that require the larger FASS unit, the rest are handled by the 3/8" unit.

I run a FASS-1 with the 3/8" lines and can barely pull the pressure down as much as 1psi (from 16 to 15) and I have a slightly modified truck. The FASS-2 is also a great option. It is an easier install, but does not have the fuel filters, requiring you to keep the stock fuel filter housing. I would personally recommend the FASS-1, but the FASS-2 is also great.

I am impressed that that VP44 made it almost 200k, especially with only one lift pump. That was a workhorse of a pump. Also, a good price on the installed pump.

BTW, welcome to the TDR, you will find a ton of good information for your truck here.

Just installed a 150 FASS last weekend and wish I had installed this system this a long time ago. Solid 16 at Idle and WOT :D and maybe it is just me, but she sure seems to idle and throttle up much smoother.

I also would recommend the FASS-1 system with Filter and the 95 should be more than adaquate

I got the VP 44 installed and it runs great. Starts immediately and found my lost HP. I was charged $1,208. 00 installed. Shiver Diesel, Tifton, GA. Ask for Ronnie. (229) 382-1595.
