Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) NAPA Lift Pump

2 years ago, the fuel station forgot to put the cap on their tank in the middle of winter, and I was one of 2 that got 20 gallons of water in the tank, which froze, and ruined the injection pump, among other things. A dodge dealer replaced it, and they have since gone out of business. This was only 30,000 miles ago. I since have put in a tank of my own, run clean fuel, treated with Stanadyne. I now have the 0216 code on the 1998, and have had the dead pedal a few times now. I am not happy, but I need advice on the best option for the longest lasting pumps out there. I only have the VA and 275 injectors, so that should not have hurt it. I have done some reading on the HRVP44, but don't know all the advantages/disadvantages of it, and what places sell pumps that have the best electronics in them? I don't want to replace this again in 30000 miles. Thank you

DPike, I'd say that you would want a VP from Industrial Injection, An aftermarket lift pump, and a Fuel Pressure Gauge. I have heard different things about the HRVP, from there is no change in the pump's life to "You'd be lucky to get 30K miles from one!" That Quote is from the guy who sold me my stock replacement.

Good luck, Moose00

I forgot to mention, I have a fp gauge, and it has been 10 min, 15 max since the IP was new. Thanks for the reply

DPike, I have a Industrial Injection vp. I bought it after searching the threads here, and reading as much information I could find about the vp on the web. I spent the extra dollars for the II HRVP due to the fact that they work with Bosh and exceed Bosh's standards. The extra hp that you get from an Industrial Injection VP is just a bonus IMHO. I've only had it a short period of time so I can't speak of reliability.

If you're going stock, as long as you buy from an authorized Bosch rebuilder your getting the same pump as anywhere else. All the rebuilders use the same parts, so you're getting nothing special ... believe me, I did a lot of research before purchasing. All the pumps have to pass the same bench test. If the pump isn't built right or has worn parts, it doesn't pass the test, period. Here's a link, so you can find a rebuilder local to you ... might save you a headache!

I got my pump locally, with a one year warranty, for under $1000.

Thanks guys, I guess I still haven't decided yet. I would like to do business with my local Bosch dealer, and if I get the regular pump, that is what I will do, but the extra power from the HR pump sounds nice, just not sure it is worth the extra $600.

The HRVP does have its place, although its not for everyone. The trick is to talk with a knowledgeable dealer about any pros and cons for you setup.

It may cost more then $600 extra from what i was told when looking for a hotrod pump, some places you need a HO pump to send in for the core not the SO. so you wont get your core return, just something to ask.

Something "else" to boggle your mind. A rebuild usually means (depending on whom the "rebuilder" is - this is also true with auto trans') all bad and severley worn parts are replaced - the unit is tested, once it meets "standard criteria" it passes and is resold.

A "new" pump is exactly that - new, never been used, bench tested to meet "new criteria" and sold as new. Although many new and "rebuild" units may have the same 1 year, the new is new.

For my application If, and I should say when, my VP goes I'll be doing the HRVP from one of our fine brothers here on the TDR.

I was unaware that there was such a thing as a "new" pump, I thought they were all rebuilt.

Thanks for all the help guys. I just called II, and they said to stay away from the HR pump for my towing and PTO application because of the lope. I will buy a regular one from the local dealer that I like. Thanks again
