I took my truck in this morning for what I would call loud clatter, louder than normal anyway. The fuel lines going to the injectors are vibrating also. The story they are telling me, this normal. They are telling me this because they installed a new VP44 about 6 weeks ago, it needs time to break in is what the story is. When I had picked it up 6 weeks ago, it was alot quieter than normal and remained that way for the last 4 weeks.

I don't know if weather has anything to do with it. It's been in the 30's in the morning up to 60's in the afternoon.

Try and get a hand on each injector and line one at a time and try to wiggle , what your doing is looking for lose parts , also look closely at the fuel lines and see if you can see a spots[ marks] where they may have left off small clamps that help to hold the lines in place , so when you go back you can show them what they need to do , you may need to check the pump to make sure that no thing is lose there , but something sure seems lose to me.

There is a thread about a book that Bently Publishing has from Bosch about their systems (several of their pumps etc (including the VP44)) and diesels in general. Might be a good read on a winter night.

Is factual and might be something that could lend some good ideas.

RoadWarrior -- it will quiet down some. I did notice last night when I got home that the air horn on top of the intake manifold was pretty darn cold. That's good information to know about the advanced timing.

rweis -- I saw that the other day, I found it on Amazon.com for around $38, haven't ordered it yet.
