Three days ago I joined the VP44 club. The wife and I took a ride out to the desert Sunday. The check engine light came on. I rad the codes, drove home and called Dodge. Today I picked it up. New pump no questions, runs good

58900 miles

Good for you. Maybe you got an updated pump that will last awhile this time.

I've got about 800 miles on my new VP. Runs stronger than before which is worth a few points, but didnt get as good of a deal as you got. . : )

kind of hard to understand all the vp-44 failures. my 98. 5 which is one of the earliest versions,no supposed to be very good. now have 405503kms still original. runs as strong as when new. however truck is still basic stock except for K&N and 4in. ext. never had any transmission or rear end problems. must be doing something right.

Is the fuel up there in Canada different than here in the US?

Our fuel has no sulfur in it and could'nt lubricate the inside of an Amsoil bottle.

Does Canadian diesel have more sulfur?

Those cheap bottles of motor oil at Wally World for . 97 cents a quart, I just dump 'em right in. The VP-44 loves it.

Some guys just get lucky I guess, on my 01 the LP went south before I installed a gauge, truck hesitated bad, so I know the 44 was starving!!! Put the RASP on it 20K ago and the 44 is still hanging in there, I did buy a spare just in case I ever need it :D

I went through 3 stock LP's before I went to a FASS. The first LP was dead when I changed it so I have no idea how long it was that way :{

Now my new pump has a fass and plenty of fuel so we will see how it survives :D

Low Sulpher Diesel

Sometime in 2007 Diesel fuel in Canada must be low sulpher content (by legislation). Billions are being spent on low sulpher diesel units in the country's refineries. Guess who is going to pay for that, not to mention what it will potentially do to injection pumps. Anyone have some hard evidence on low sulpher fuel and injector pump lubrication they would care to share?

Mr. Mike.

You would think that the VP-44 is a step UP in diesel injection, but we all know it's not. For emissions, yeah, but with low sulfur fuel, the P-7100 is the way to go.

Isn't that thing lubricated by engine oil? Could pump grape juice with that bad boy and not worry about the lubricity of the diesel.

I hate to be the nay sayer here, but the parts that get lubed with engine oil arent the ones that are damaged by non slipery fuel. The plungers themselves can score with bad fuel. All be it the P-pump is much more relable and I dont know if it will need help with ULSD.

As for my VP, Im scared..... If the world was fair I could let it go and just send the bill for the new HRVP to uncle sam! {yeah right} I think I'll start burning some cheap eng. oil. Throttlejockey; is that a lighter straight weight (10w), or just what ever is on the shelf. Seems even a quart of 50w in a full tank would dilute enough.

The date I read last for ULSD in USA i thought was june of this year. (?)

Obert, yeah,

It's a non detergent 10w 30 base stock. There's no additive package or cleaners. Just dino oil. $. 97 cents a quart at the World.

Hmmm, 4 bucks a gallon. Pretty soon we'll be able to fill our fuel tanks there.
