Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Vacuum in fuel tank

Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) strange problem

My VP44 started heading south a couple days ago. White smoke, hesitating when accelerating from 55-75 with fuel pressures remaining between 9-12psi (no codes though). I was looking to replace this pump and found that 0470506027 was the correct part number for a 99 Dodge Ram 5 speed. My question is, will a 2001 HO 5 speed 245hp pump with part #0470506028 work in my truck? I've searched on the board and found that some have done this but Im wondering if there will be any compatibility issues or problems that I'll have to deal with.

Thanks

Gary

Question.

Why do you want the 245 hp HO pump? A simple program box like the Edge EZ can give you a 300 hp SO 24 valve Cummins Diesel.

But if your mind is set I think you would need the pump, a new ECM and possibly a new PCM, too. The injectors on a HO are actually SMALLER than yours are, so yuck, right? Forget those.

I have slept a night or two. . but I was thinking that plungers were smaller in the pump too... some of the HO guys changing to the ETC plungers????

Thanks for the replies. Any ideas if a reflash of the ecm/pcm with a HO program will work? I remember reading somewhere about a cam position sensor being used for timing with the 2001 and 02 models and the elimination of the crankshaft sensor. I gather with these models the VP pulls all the timing from the cam sensor and the 99-00 models pull timing from both sensors? So in effect the reflash would cause the crankshaft sensor to no longer be used or am I thinking down the wrong path..... Thanks

The reason why I would want to put in a 245hp pump? I'm just cheap, found one on ebay that I figured I could snipe for under $600, gotta love sniping software. Around a day left and its still sitting at $300.

Vp44 245hp HO injector pump

Did some research on this pump and found out it was the 028 model. Looks like it will be too much work to switch it over so mabey someone else on tdr will have an interest in it.

Gary,

I replaced on 027 pump with an 028 pump on a 2001 ETC engine a couple of years ago without any problems. I don't know if there would be problems doing the same on a 99.
