Please indicate your truck year if you have had a VP44 fail. We have heard about early ones having issues, however I keep seeing 2002's having failures. SNOKING

I voted for my brother (98. 5) I haven't had one go bad in my truck. He keeps having LP problems, I think that's what caused the failure on his VP44. I "fixed" my LP, so I don't expect any VP44 problems... ..... now where's that block of wood for knocking on? :-laf

Can't vote. . 01. 5. . and 154K and its still kickin...

Drag Comp for 125K. . +injector for the last 50K. . LP #2

My '02 failed at about 55000 with the lift pump still running good. Dealer replaced the injection pump and the lift pump under warranty. Great guys to work with.

02, 53K.

I thought I had done EVERYTHING possible to protect it: Stanadyne every tank, lp on frame, AN-6 lines, RACOR 690T (10 micron) filters free water and particulates, Edge Comp (pump wire NOT tapped) used as a boost fooler only, DD2's, pre / post ff gauges, always run cool down so the VP can cool down as well as the turbo, turbo keeps EGT at 700* empty and 900* towing (ie keep engine cool), what else could I have done?

I did have a bypass regulator in SERIES with the lp regulated to 12 psi constant. The bypass regulator MIGHT have restricted the volume of fuel. Bypass regulator is now history. RASP (see below) bypass regulator is NOT in series with fuel system.

Only thing left is a RASP (or other type of your choice) and a fuel cooler, both of which I will be installing.

I discussed the problem at length with the Dodge mech that replaced the VP. His take from the schools he has gone to is push as much fuel at the VP as possible at not less than 12 psi and not higher than14 psi. His dealership recommends changing the lp annually regardless of how it is performing and immediately if lp pressure drops below 12 psi. He said they rarely replace a VP with customers that replace the lp every year.

Mine seemed to be overheat of the electronics. Gotta keep the VP cool with more fuel available at the right pressures than the VP can ever use. I also am going to cool the fuel with a large fluid cooler with a fan.

103K and praying! 3rd LP is on it's way out and a FASS is on order. Wire has been tapped for 30K.

Interesting thought about the climate, 2/3 of the time it is cool or just danm cold in Quebec. That mey be keeping my VP alive afterall! I knew winter has it's advantages!

Can you link a poll to another poll? We can all go back and "vote" for the part of the country we that have had failures are in.

I voted 02 for my dad's @ 20,000 miles. Mine has 60,000 with the wire tapped since it had 15,000, and added the fass after (2) lift pumps for the last 6,000 no issues (knock on wood) with the vp.

Mine failed at 35K miles

My 02 was rough starting, white smoke, and would stumble. Just about a week after how I bragged it was the best vehicle I ever owned. :{ I guess Bosch hadn't quite refined the VP-44. :p

First VP44 at 60k. Second VP44 at 99k. Attempting to find hout how long a Hod Rod vp44 will last. I tapped the first VP44 with less than 1k on the clock, and all successive pumps were tapped upon installation.

I'm in the North-East, I have a 2001 3500. When I bought the truck with 24,000 miles on it the lift pump was almost dead, 3-5 psi at idle and 0 going down the road, I replaced that lift pump and it was on the truck until last summer when I changed it just because I could, it was still working fine but I had a new one and was working right there anyways so I figured I'd change it. That lift pump is still in there. At the 50,000 mile area I installed an Edge Comp and pierced the wire right away. My Comp spends a good portion of its life on 5x5 but right now it's on 3x3. I turned 130,000 miles yesterday and my VP is still working. That's longer than the VE lasted on my first gen so I am happy :-laf

Am I crazy with fuel filter changes? NO, I've probably change fuel filters 5 or 6 times in 100,000 miles

Do I purchase fuel from just a couple places? YES

What do I think helps the life of my VP and Lift Pumps? NEVER going below 1/4 tank and almost always filling up just below 1/2 tank, yes that is what I think has alot to do with longevity, well that and luck! :D

I only used fuel conditioner in the winter months, sometimes, up until I had about 90,000 miles and now I use it regularly.
