Had my truck into cummings in Montreal today and fuel leak found where injection pump attaches. Was quoted 5 hrs to repalce this $35. 00+- o-ring. Is this reasonable. When questioned they say the time quote came from smp.
Yeah, you definitely need to get a better explanation. All the fuel fittings are sealed by banjo washers, the only serviceable o-ring is the pump mounting o-ring, and that would be an engine oil leak (and they RARELY leak. )
Thanks guys, You are right of course. I assumed that because it was injection pump it must be fuel but the evidence on the bottom on the engine makes it make a whole lot more sense that it is oil, of course. They seem to be competant but communication is not their forte. Especially as my french is not that great. Would appreciate any leads to a good independant in the Montreal area but haven't yet come up with any. TDR has not appeared to penetrate here very far. Thanks for the help. Cleared up the questions in my mind as to what I was not understanding. The cummings dealer here is supposed to be pricey but they are also supposed to know their stuff. They better.
OK - if it is an oil leak then 5 hours is about right for a VP R&R. But why is it leaking - have you just had it changed? O rings usually don't just fail.
Your other choice is to live with the leak if it is not excessive. I wouldn't want fuel leaking, but oil will just keep the underside rustproofed.
