VP44 Pump Cover Torx Bit

My new (reman) VP44 has a different tamper-proof torx holding it down. It appears to be a 25, but there is only 5 points to the star, not 6. Does anyone know where I can find one of these. Thanks, Bill.

Guess I should have been more specific, its the pump cover I wanna change over so I can hook up the wire. Not a warrenty issue, its a 98. 5. I just like the connection. Any idea on this oddball 5 point tamper proof torx?

The oddball 5 point tamper proof torx is called Torx Plus. You can buy one from either Snap on, Cornwell, or Bluechip Diesel. I tried to get one from Snap on but they wouldn't sell me just the 25 socket bit and the 8 piece set cost $230!!!!! I ended up buying the set from Cornwell for about $40, Bluechip has just the socket for $8. 50

Call Piers. He will sell you the bit for about $10 plus shipping. I bet you will not be able to find the bit by itself locally. I couldn't.

I have also heard that S&K sells this tool. I am not sure though. I have not personally ckecked. good luck.

If you are in a hurry you may get lucky at Sears. I needed a tamper proof torx for the removal of the multi-switch on the steering column and ended up with a 25$ multi tool from sears. One of those drivers with 30 or so interchangeable bits. Bits were mostly oddball tamper proof types. Worth a check. If I was home I would run out to the garage and stare at it for you but I am at my desk at work and my photographic memory only works on certain... ... ... things tools ain't one of em. :-laf
