Competition Dyno: Does it have the ability to detect slippage?

Competition What else can I do?

Some time ago, Jeff tried a different VP44 on a older 24v. The result appeared to me slightly more aggressive timing (could hear it) and what appeared to be more power. This truck never had an problems with it so... when my pump went a few weeks ago, I decided to try it. So far so good.

My best baseline with 275's and VA was 260/600. Best baseline with EZ was 260/574. This with two different stock pumps. Check out the results when I put it on the dyno. So far I have pulled it over Monteagle, and a couple other dyno events and before where the factory defueling at 2700rpm kicked in, I hated it. I'm liking life now. Picked up a couple PSI boost and about a little heat. It also looks like the timing may have added a little mpg too. And this only works on 1998-2000 24v's.

She'll get a work out all summer, so we'll see if I like the "wrong pump".

Ya know... . If I remember right HVAC had started to play with the idea back before he left us for the big track in the sky.

Keep us posted on how it works out for ya!

There is more to advancing the timing then just changing out the key... . The ECM uses a signal from the crank or cam sensor to time the pump.

Can a SO pump be run on a HO truck? Wondering if I could put a SO pump on my truck and get more available fuel than the HO pump.

This idea works pretty well, just have to machine a new cam tone ring with the gap between the slots offset. That's what is done to my pickup anyway.

Aw, come on Jeff, you know that "custom" and "secret" are waaaaaay more interesting than "wrong" :-laf You need to start selling "Super Trick, Secret Custom, UPS, HR, HO" VP44's for 98. 5-00 trucks :-laf

The biggest problem I have found with any VP-44, is they are not quite heavy enough to keep the bass boat where I want to fish.

Gene,

Now that's funny! :-laf :-laf :-laf

friend of mine has a HO when the pump died he put a regular 44 on but used the key out of the HO but no changes he could tell , he said some pump shops do this ????

So is the "15" a 2001 injection pump and the "17" a 2002 injection pump? And do Jeff's code numbers for each have to do with the timing advance ie: 15 or 17 degrees of timing?

The pump (I am assuming is one major difference) in my 01 Freight (stock) feels like it pulls way harder than my wife's 01 with the box on lower settings (also stock except comp box). I'm guessing there are all sorts of differences, since the Freightliner has basically no emissions restrictions...

I would think the annular ring on the bigger pumps would be different, aside from the key and so forth... This is the primary difference in the pumps anyway if I looked at them correctly.

What do the numbers at the bottom of the ID tag (and on the key) actually designate? Between the annular ring and the key, the two establish total pump timing.
