I'm fairly new to the TDR/CTD scene, so this question may have been addressed many a time before... but here goes:

Is there another option when it comes time to replace the VP44 then simply slapping another one in there? IF (or is it "when"?) mine goes, I'd like to know if I have any other options for replacement. Info such as manufacturer, COST(always the biggie), and where I can find more info on the product would be extremely useful.

I ask this because I've been reading about how the FASS system can replace the factory lift pump. I figured that if something goes wrong with what I've already got... then why in the eternal-inferno would I want to put the exact same thing back on?!

I am by NO MEANS a diesel mechanic. Nor do I claim to understand how the lift pump, VP44, or anything else on my truck works. I've got the mechanical ability to turn a screwdriver... but that's about it. So, please "dumb-down" your replies so that I can understand. I usually do pretty good with single-syllable words. ;)

TIA,

Dave

Welcome to the TDR. Fasten your seatbelt and prepare yourself for lots of good info and fun. You just might learn a thing or three about diesels:) .

When the VP44 injection pump goes bad, you either replace it with a factory reman unit or a new one. Local shops that can rebuild them dont really exist yet. Close... but not yet. Bosch likes their "secret" VP44.

I also think the FASS is something a long time coming. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to try one. But I've already modded my fuel system so much I cant afford to do it.

I've got a mini-FASS sort of! :D

Best price on VP 44

One place to go for best deal on VP 44. Got mine in 2 weeks ago at $850 inlcluding core from cumminstuff.com. Putting it in was a snap, pretty straight forward. This is a brand new pump, not reman. Truck running great now. Except for egt issues... .
