OK, I had a p0216 code about 2 weeks ago (78,000), took it to the dealership because it was sputtering, had the dead pedal, and would make a huge cloud of white smoke after a momentary "stumble" when it was about half way to OT. Dealership replaced the lift pump and said the VP was fine. I had my doubts and drove off. No problems, later that day it did it again under the same conditions, I took it back to the dealership and told them AGAIN that code was for the VP, not the lift pump. They again said the VP was not the problem. To this day the symptoms have all but gone away completely (installed EZ). Should I still worry about it dieing on me?

TIA

Looks like the dealer isn't gonna step up to do anything until the VP-44 undeniably goes bad - so you either find another dealer, or run it til it drops...

code 216 is the death code for your vp44. It may not act up for a while but I can deffinately tell you that at some point it will stop running or cause hard starting. The dealer is just trying to screw with you. A Bosch service dealer(diesel fuel injection shop) should be able to work with a dealer and replace the pump for you at the Bosch service dealer shop. The 216 codes is all that is needed to submit a warrantee claim through Bosch.

I just replaced a VP44 tonight doing the same thing yours is doing,White smoke, dead peddle, above 1200 RPM not moving a miss,All is well now...

I had figured. I have a few friends that are techs at a dealership a little further down the road, I guess I'll be stopping in to see them. I would almost like for it to die so that I can tell that god forsaken service rep guy "I told you so!" then make him pay the guy driving the rollback. My only issue is that I'm going about 4 hours North through the mountains trailering a car and would hate for it to die then.

Looks like I need to find someone that will fix it fast, its getting worse by the day.

Thanks,

R. J.
