I just got my vulcan draw straw yesterday and noticed it has a 5/8" plastic draw tube vs. the 1/2" line they say it has on their website. Is this something they've changed? I know they make a draw straw II with 5/8" tubing. will this cause any problems for me? Also, does anyone have better pics of how to install the draw straw than what comes with it? they're not bad, but they could be a little better.

I never measured mine, but is the 5/8" O. D. or I. D. If it is O. D. then you have 1/2" I. D. hose. As for the directions and pictures, yeah they're a little vague, but if you have any trouble give Eric at Vulcan Performance a call, he'll help you. He'll usually answer on a weekend also, but make it a reasonable time for him, he lives in Vancouver Wa. so he's a couple hours different than you.

Measure 3 times, cut 1 time.

Mine is an 02. There are some differences in the tank cannisters through the years.

I took the bottom screen off completely, BUT I also have a RACOR 690 filter as the first thing out of the tank. The bottom screen also helps keep fuel available to the fuel pickup. I know that and I fill up a little earlier then at 1/8 tank when the low fuel light comes on (I also added a bed aux tank gravity feed, so there are some differences) to insure the fuel pickup stays well submerged in fuel.

There is a thread about some guys working a sump idea.

You have to decide how far you are going to take it (gut it) BEFORE you do the install.

I also pinned my cannister fixed length (not float). I only use the cannister bottom to hold the Draw Straw firmly in place.

I also took out the OEM fuel rheostat and use a Stewart Warner mounted into the tank body instead (with the parallel resistor to correct for the ohm differences).

I got mine within 1/4" of the tank bottom and it seems to draw really well. Very pleased with the DS. Before DS the fuel system could suck air under heavy fuel requirements because the OEM system would not provide enough fuel. With DS I do not see any evidence of air being sucked in.

I use the second port on the DS for my gravity feed from the aux tank.

Call me 863-206-3464 if I can be of any help.

Bob,
Just finished installing a Vulcan draw straw. I was curious what the evidence of air being sucked would be?
I never go below a half a tank as a rule. With the draw straw I will be even more cautious.
I also saw one of your other posts on the VP/Head fuel return upgrade you did. I bought some 5/16th fuel line but gave up on the idea for now until I figure out a clean way to connect below the T at the firewall. I was wondering how you made the connection to remove the crimp restriction below the quick connect.
Thanks JJ
