Just bought an '04 TDI Jetta. Who makes the best "chip", what does it do and how much is it?????????? How hard is it to install and remove?

Lots of folks seem to think that Upsolute makes the best chip. Chips are a bit of a PITA to deal with on these cars - they require taking out the ECM and sending it to someone to do it... or you drive to the place and they do it while you wait.



Look into tuning boxes... they can be installed by the consumer, rather than relying on someone else.



If you don't mind messing with wiring... you can do the same thing as a tuning box for about $1. 79 in parts. It's called the "Evry modification". Do a search on tdiclub.com - I did this to my old TDI and it really woke it up...



Before anything - do the EGR adaptation and CCV modification so that your intake doesn't clog up.



Even with my TDI cranked up pretty far - it still wasn't in the danger zone of EGT - but the boost was a tad high for the little VNT-15. I was hitting ~38psi on that little thing.
