Moving to Oregon, Where to buy Diesel?

Exhaust on the OTHER brands

Someone told me that next year ('05 - '06) another foreign car maker will introduce a small car with a diesel motor... I'm not a big VW fan, so if Honda or Toyota come out with one, I'll be looking. Have you guys heard anything? Thanks, Jeff

I don't have any information on what Honda or Toyota are doing, but I did have the opportunity to drive a brand new Jetta TDI last evening. I'll tell you, it is an impressive little car. It was very difficult to tell the difference in general performance between it and a comparable gas powered unit. With the fuel mileage that these cars get, anyone in the market for a compact car should at least give these a look.

VW diesel

I've heard that VW will be coming out with a diesel/hybrid. Seems like it was a 3 cylinder diesel/electric that would get something like 80 mpg. Can't remember where I saw this so don't quote me on the details.

Boy, isn't that the American dream. 3 Cylinder, Diesel, Electric.

Remember when it was V-8, Manual transmission, and $0. 50 for gas?

I have a 2001 TDI Jetta and I love it! It is an awesome little car. 50 MPG and I drive it like a sports car. I am not conservative at all. I have to drive 40 minutes into the mountains and I can put it in 5th gear and leave it. In cruise control it will go up every hill at 55MPH. Its fun to drive and has enough power for the daily commute. I highly recommend looking at them if you need an econominal fun car to drive. Why anyone would by a Hyundai or Kia is beyond me. VW is a little more expensive, but you will save it in fuel costs in a few years if you drive alot.

Europe has diesel everything - Wish the US would catch on but instead they are to busy with their gas/electric hybrids or playing with hydrogen cells.

big problem with diesel in this country is perception. when i tell people that i have a diesel truck, the first thing they say is "oh, one of those stinky things" or "is it a kenworth or a peterbuilt"

if you haven't driven one of these cummins trucks or the diesel VW, you really have no idea how clean and powerful they really are.

one of my friends has been working on a 454 for his chevy pickup to get more "low end power". after i took him for a ride in mine, he is pi**ed now. he said this truck puts you back in the seat better than he imagined his will do.

as gas prices go up more, diesel will be more popular. my 7000 lb truck got 19. 8 mpg calculated average last tank. the same gas truck is getting around 11.

nough said.

I don't want a Kia or Hyundia? I was hoping for a Honda or Toyota... I guess we'll just have to wait and see. The only reason I'm not a VW fan is the ratings they get in customer satisfaction and reliability ratings in Consumer Reports. Seems funny that everyone I talk to love their VW's though!

Probably not the brand, or price range, you were hoping for but someone told me the other day that Mercedes is going to make a diesel option available again soon. How soon I don't recall.

The Mrs. is currently driving a Nissan Xterra that has a supercharger. Seemed like a great idea a few years ago when we got it but being that you're supposed to run super in it is kicking my ar$e now. Good thing she doesn't drive that much. Looking forward to the diesel Jeep Liberty that's due out later this year.

I love to drive my Cummins, but I also don't like to rack up a lot of miles on it, still under 100k. But I do drive my diesel Rabbit everyday, great little car if your not in a hurry, and I love that fuel milage:D :D

does anybody make a 7 passenger diesel wagon? I know that vw makes a jetta and passat wagon but I don't know seeting capacity and I don't think you can get the diesel in the jetta wagon.

I can't afford to drive our Yukon with the 6L anymore due to fuel prices but I have 6 kids at home.

Hell, I remember a V8, 3 spd w/od and 29 cents a gallon! Surprised I remember even that.

The Dodge Sprinter van with 5 cyl Benz turbodiesel has been tested by several car mags recently, and overall mpg is 30. I test drove one at the s******, and its reasonably peppy, but the driving position really makes you hunch over.

A small diesel can get superb mileage and Detroit (and the Feds) better wake up and get some high fuel ecomomy out of everything they make.

The public perception of "diesels" needs to be changed. I've yet to see a commercial for any diesel speaking of clean emissions and high fuel ecomomy. Detroit doesn't want to promote it.

Fuel supply and fuel demand curves have met. US better get its head out of its rear and do something now (more diesels)... and keep looking for something better in the meantime. Its going to be a while before they figure out how to operate a vehicle on sea water.

I got tired of waiting. Started buying engines from older cars and putting them in newer ones. That's how I wound up with a 1994 Ford Tempo with a diesel. If Detroit won't make a Diesel car for me, I'll make one for myself, and the EPA can pry it from my cold, dead hands. They don't inspect anything around here, anyway.
