Long-Term Storage advice needed

The preliminary indications from last weekend's dyno check of a bunch of VW TDI (turbocharged diesel) engines with OEM air filters vs. K&N etc. revealed that the #1 top HP/Torque on the dynomometer was a TDI equipped with an OEM/Paper element. Additionally, those with non-paper elements all displayed some level (some large amounts!) of abrasives in the intake systems. The complete dyno results should be posted over at the TDI club site in the next few days.

WEELLLLL! That research follows Jim Bigley's research using oil sample analysis for K&N, OEM and Amsoil. K&N contributed big dirt to oil. More air, less filter. Amsoil 2 stage best. OEM second. A well done project archived in the Diesel Page. George Eusterman

What seems to be the best setup fot the VW? It's hard to believe mine is still stock! Edge is supposed to be coming out with something it looks like.

I've got a 99 Jetta IV and have the Tuning Box installed in it and it's phenominal. I've got a K&N and have no grit and my oil samples come back with all categories well below the accepted levels. I DID have to re-oil the filter before putting it into the car initially as I've found that the K&N's right out of the box are not oiled nearly enough and that seems to be the problem with why people are getting particles passing through the media. I run enduros on my ATV and find that nothing works better than a clean and properly oiled K&N. Too much oil on the TDI is just as much of a problem as not enough as it puts a film on the mass air meter and the car loses power. When Edge comes out with their box, I'll try it and let everyone know how it compares. Right now, with the tuning box and the K&N, along with a defeated EGR, the car peaks out at 24 psi boost, whereas stock it got 12 max. And NO smoke whatsoever! Mileage is still between 45 and 51 depending on how much I get to drive the car (drops due to my excessive use of the pedal on the right).

Diesel Dynamics has an automatic trans Bug and their injectors added over 20 hp. That's a big percentage--their bug made 77 hp stock on the Dynojet, and about 100 with injectors.
