I recall awhile back some scuttle regarding - I believe - a wagner 4" muffler available through NAPA. If anyone has any info on these can you please pass it along. I am looking to open up my 04. 5, but a little nervous about just "tossing" the muffler completely - my wife rides in the truck when I'm towing :-{}

Thanks-

I think you are talking about a muffler called Walker that is available at NAPA.

FWIW I just put a 30" MagnaFlow on my 05 and my wife didn't notice the slight increase in sound. If you are concerned about noise you will be very happy with this muff on the 600 trucks.

Also welcome to the TDR! :D

I remember Joe Donnelly replying to a thread saying that he thought the Walker Muffler (he gave a part number) was the best sounding muffler he had heard. Deep throaty sound, I believe.

I don't know if you can do a search and find that post or just get ahold of him. You might want to ask where in the system he placed that muffler, also, and if that makes a difference.

I put a 14" Magnaflow just in back of the header pipe ( almost under the shotgun seat). These new trucks sound a lot different than the older ones. Sound more like a sports car than a diesel truck.

Also, see if Joe Donnelly knows how to get rid of the drone. I've got it at about 2100-2200 rpm's. It's not too bad without a trailer on the back but, if you are pulling up an incline with a load on, it's pretty loud. I've heard that if you install an additional 11" Magnaflow in the system it will take away the drone. I like it a little loud, just wish it had more of a throaty sound.

Hope this helps.

There are plenty of good mufflers out there to chose from. However, another option is to gut your factory muffler. You CAN have low backpressure and still control the sound! If anyone is interrested, send me a personal message with an e-mail address and I will send you instructions.

I have Word file I keep handy so I can cut n paste ideas as they are posted on the forum. I don't know who posted this but it's in my little file of bomb ideas.
