Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) New truck advice

The light doesn't come on anymore, but I think the grids are working. The alt. needle will cycle when the truck is first started.

I just noticed this because I usually remote start the truck, but it's been warmer so I just normally started and noticed it wasn't coming on.

Maybe just a light bulb ?

Could be a bulb. I think the instrument cluster test is to hold the odometer button, turn on the key, and keep holding the button until the test starts. Tests all the segments in the odo display, tests all the indicator lights, and sweeps the gauges to several test points.

If the light comes on with the test, might be a loose wire somewhere between the cluster and the ECM, or a bad ECM (though I'd doubt this last one).

Should be pretty easy to tell if the grids are running--use a multimeter on the relay output. I put an LED for each grid in the cab to let me know when they're on, as others have done before.
