Hi guys I have a 98. 5 2500 automatic and the wait to start light comes on about 10 seconds after I put the key in the run position? sometimes it will fire up and sometimes not??? its a real pain in the A** there are no codes, I have just replaced the vp44, ecm and tps any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The grid heaters being on for 10 seconds just helps the engine fire up faster. It should not cause it not to start.

The grid heaters are turned on by the PCM when the intake manifold temp is 59 degrees F or below. There is a pre and post cycle.

Don't know what would keep it from starting now and then.

yes they are coming on, but i have to wait about 30 seconds every time before i can start my truck, its kind of a pain with drivethru's and stuff. Before i did all the work on the truck the WTS light would come on as soon as i put the key to the run position, but now it comes on about ten seconds after

I'd say it's a problem with the ECM, but you indicated that you had replaced it. I would suggest you take a close look for bad grounds or other wiring connection problems. If the ECM is new and it's acting this way it is probably a wiring problem. A good ECM with proper power, ground, and ignition 'ON' signals should immediately light the WTS light as soon as the ignition is turned ON.

It just happend again, the wait to start light came on, then when I went to start it it would just turn over until I pressed the fuel pedal, then it started.

turns out it was the ecm i just talked to the people i got the ecm from and i am the second person that has had this issue with one of there rebuilt units thanks guys.
