Wait to start light

How cold does it have to be before my "wait to start" light will stay on longer than just the split second thing it does in the summer? It was 55* this morning and when I turned the key on the light came on then right off again as if it were 75* outside??? Im confused I thought the light would stay on a little longer at the cooler temps. Just curious as I ve been thinking for a while that this light is on the fritz.

The engine computer looks at several things and decides how long the wait to start light and heating grid need's to stay on before you crank the vehicle... I've been in locations where it was -25 * F. and it seemed like forever for the light to go off and the engine to warm up..... When possible and I know its going to get cold... I'll try and park the truck someplace where I can plug it in...



When it's -25 and you turn the key... . to wait for that light, and you see the temp gauge move after the trucks been plugged in all night... you know the light won't be on but a couple of seconds..... but you will see warm air from the heater in 2 or 3 minutes... ...

No need to wait for the light when it is 55* out. My truck with over 200k on it starts right up without waiting for the grid heaters. Just start it right up.

You are probably only about 10-15 degrees away from the grid heater doing its pre-heating. Mine are calling for it and mornings have been 40-45 degrees here.

It can be 55 outside but 65 inside the garage. Just thinking out loud.

Just wondered if cause they swapped my injectors and took the intake off if maybe they hooked something up wrong???

The light in my '03 stayed on much longer than my '06. The '03 would come on any day of the year. The '06 only comes on when it's around 40, and then usually only once, the first time I start it in the morning. These trucks are different.
