Is there any purpose for waiting for the "wait to start light" to go out?

On my 02 the truck starts almost immediately even at below 45 degrees... without waiting for the "WTS" light to go out. Upon starting... the grid heaters begin to cycle as I drive down the road.

the wait to start is just to get the air warm for immediate starting. . when sorta warm, your engine will start but the grids will cycle... just that when real cold like near 0 deg... you need to wait til it goes out so that the warm air will help it start.

You need to wait several seconds for the lift pump to presurize and the computer to get it's head on straight. I never needed the grids in New Jersey. You don't need to wait till the light goes out.

It's not a glow plug system, so it shouldn't hurt starting early. With glow plugs, starting early on a regular basis would destroy your glow plugs. We have this problem all the time with Chevy motors on HMMWVs and CUCVs (Blazers). These Cummins engines use grid heaters in the air intake, not glow plugs in the head.
