Recently I started my 2500 too quickly and did not wait for the light to go out. :( not just once but twice. Too much of a hurry and just forgot, twice. Since that time my mpgs are down 1-2 mpg. Could not waiting for the light to go out have screwed up the engine computer? or is this just a fluke.

I also have trailer mirrors, am running with them extended, anyone notice a decrease in mpg in this situation?

Thanks

Sandmancw, welcome to the TDR ::cool: I routinely start mine without waiting for the wait to start light to go out when the ambient temperature is >60 degrees without any ill effects or change in mileage. I'm interested in what others will contribute here.

I don't see how it would affect anything, I had a gasser flashback this winter when it was 20* outside, hopped in the truck and hit the key. Fired right up but fogged the whole street corner in lol.

I have to much of a lead foot to even try to compare MPG per tank lol. The fact that it has been plenty hot in OK and texas might be part of your problem. My fan runs quite a bit now and that thing can't be good for mileage IMO

In warm weather I never wait for the light to go out. Just get in and start it up. If it has been sitting for a few days I might wait if I think about. It has no affect on my mileage.

In warm weather, over 59 degrees, the grid heaters do not come on. The light comes on only for a bulb test, as you see all the other lights do when you first turn on the key.

Been starting mine like a gasser since April. . . just flick the key straight to "cranker-up!" as soon as I hop in :D

I did a Bad340BFish move last winter too, about 30F, yeah it was a little smokey but started instantly.

I use to not wait too, but when you turn the key you can hear the injection pump or something turn on, so I wait until that goes off. Do you know what im talking about>?

If you are in a cold climate you may have gotten #1 or blended diesel the last time you filled up. I see you are listed as being in Texas. Where does it get cold enough to trigger the wait to start timer in the summer? I'm north of you in Tennessee and it has been hotter than h*ll here for the last two months!

Come to think of it, I got either #1 or kerosene from a station owned by an indian tribe in South Dakota several years back. It reduced my mileage about 10% for that tank. Oh,well, I guess they have to something with the leftover stock. It was about 101 degrees that day!:D :D

You should not repeat not start like a gasser even if the temp is above 60. True the heaters don't come on but you might have water in your fuel and if you start right up you may blow your injector pump $$$$$. Make sure the water in fuel light goes out before you start!

:D

I have had 2 Dodges. One 12 valve and one 24 valve. Never do I wait for the start light to go off. Fires everytime.

My '95 has a mechanical lift pump so I don't hear squat until I twist the key. Oh yeah, forgot, I'm almost deaf so I don't hear squat anyway. I jumped in and twisted the key one morning when we were visiting my daughter and her family in Provo. It was 18 degrees. Started right up but it didn't like it. Rattled and banged around. Shook the truck. Smoked like a forest fire. My son-in-law was ready to abandon ship.:rolleyes: It warmed up a little and smoothed right out. No other problem except for curious stares from the neighbors' windows.

I have always waited for light to cycle. I didn't know about the 60 degree thing, now that I know that I'll quit waiting above 60. Thanx.

I get in, turn the key on, fasten seat belt then start. In summer there is no waiting for the lite kuz it goes out while the seatbelt gets buckled. The computers ( ECM, PCM ) go through a self test diagnostics while the wait lite is on.
