I relocated my (new) stock lift pump back down by the fuel tank. I have the big line kit to the fuel filter, and to the vp44. My pressure at the inlet to the vp44 is 12-13 at idle about 9 at 60-70mph and about 6-7 when I get on it. This is on my 2001 with bank 4"ex,intake,high ram intake, ottomind. This psi does not give the warm good feeling that I want. I am looking at the walbro 392 inline (gerotor) pump. You can buy this pump on Ebay for about $120. It looks like I could put this inplace of the stock pump no problem. Do you have to run a bypass line back to the fuel fill tube with this set up. Any info would be great! I like the fass and airdog setup's but I already have the relocation done. On the short box frame I would have to mount those systems on the outside of the frame, I don't like that idea!! thanks

I did the same pump relocation / big line modification that you did, except I am using a 392 with no other changes.

This is my second Walbro. The first was a 391 and lasted just short of 20k miles, which left little good impressions on me. Still seeing how long this one can last.

Yes, the Walbro requires a bypass line and pressure regulator. Glacier diesel sells a simple inline pressure regulator in their Walbro kits but I'm not sure if they sell it as a single unit, you could call and see. Summitracing.com sells some nice adjustable aeromotive fuel pressure regulators, that's where I got mine. They're a little spendy but easier to adjust than the Glacier Diesel units.

You will also need a way to plumb the bypass line into the fuel tank. This is what I used:

Good luck

ya that is what comes in the glacier kit, makes the return really nice and easy to install, that return regulator is what controls your pressure, you have to take it apart and put different shims in it to control the pressure, thats the only thing I don't like about it compared to a raptor or similar pump, other than that its an awesome pump

I have the GDP 392 kit, had it for about 70k miles now. I have a SP66 turbo and Stage 2 CP3, TST running at 8x8 most times. I see 22psi at idle, and 17 when I get on it. No problems.

Yeah, thanks guys... .

I did forget to mention the Walbro needs a regulator and a re-circ line back to the tank to control pressure. I installed the re-circ line into a tee I installed into the tank fill hose.

I am using a regulator I bought from Vulcan . So far so good. I don't see it on his website anymore, so you might call and ask if he still sells it. It was about as simple and in-expensiveas a guy could ask for. Basically a tee with an adjustable ball check for a back pressure regulator. The straight part of the tee is pass through, so with any failure of the ball check the engine still gets fuel. This is not the case with some multi-port fuel regulators. The OEM Carter has an internal bypass / pressure regulator of the same type. Mine maintains about 17 psi in conjuction with the 392.

I went through 2 walbro 392 pumps, Richard from galcier diesel set me up with a Raptor pump, been in for about a month, works good. No return line is needed (internal bypass) and it has a pressure adjustment on the pump, and a lifetime warranty. It may not be the last pump you put in, but it will be the last one you buy.
Good luck.

I'm selling the airdogs for 390 and I was selling the glacier kit for 400 and the raptor has a lifetime warrenty on the pump, don't remember what the gdp kit had, there both good kits, just like the adjustability of the raptor

fass and airdog are the same thing pretty much, correct me if Im wrong but father and son started a company (either airdog or fass) they had a falling out now the father has airdog and the son has fass

Yeah, I believe you are right about them being father and son.

Thanks for the reply. Personally I have lost some faith in Walbro and looking at other alternatives.
