I just towed a 2001 slt home for a friend that bout it for $6,500. 00 the downfall is it sat in the bottom of the river for one week. Do you guys think it is worth the money? I suggested he not buy it. ??????????????

Ok------------

Some questions to determine the nature of potential damage and therefore value... ...

1. Was it fresh, brackish or salt water?????

2. What shape is it - I mean how did it get there, dropped from a barge, accident etc????

3. Is it a diesel?

4. How much money does your friend want to put into it?

5. Can you determine if the engine was running when it went into the water?

6. How much silt/sand is in the truck???

7. How long has it been "out-of-the-river?"

I doubt that you can get but without at least pulling the head...

Some of the stuff will dry out 100% - in fact most will.....

I'm guessing a used 2001 in good condition would go for . . what... 21k to 23k. . somewhere around there. So... your friend has about 15k dollars to play with.

I think the electrical/electronics would worry me more than anything. I doubt if the "big" items (engine, transmission, drive train) are hurt at all. Flush them out and re-fill... maybe.

Tough call!

The truck is a diesel and there was a stick on the pedal so it was running when it went in the water there is basically no body damage. the interior is still wet, it was fresh water and there is not much silt in the truck. I told him DO NOT TRY AND START IT but he jumped the starter and it turned over a little. doesnt listen very well! I personally think from experience just go buy a nice one and don't mess with junk but he wont listen. I laready told him computers wiring and basically everything electrical in that truck will have to be replaced or dried and cleaned thourouly.

Here in the Houston area (prone to flooding), cars that have been immersed are totalled by the insurance company almost without hesitation, primarily because of the electrics (which are a major problem, now and down the road). This is especially true of modern "computerized" vehicles like a 2001 Ram.

The engine is probably hydrauliced - if it wasn't when it went into the river, it is after your friend tried to crank it. It will need to come apart to check for bent connecting rods, cracked pistons, etc. I won't even bother to discuss transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, etc.

Personally, I'd pass - I don't need the aggravation.
