I didn't like the fact that I had to have my key on in the Run postion to use my power windows. I modified the power seat circuit breaker and used it to feed the power window circuit. Here is a picture of the modification. I pulled the power seat circuit breaker, removed the aluminum 'can' and drilled about a quarter inch hole in it directly above the protected side (this is the lower contact when viewing it in the 'installed' position) and installed a rubber feed-thru grommet. Next I made a jumper about two and one half inches long with a spade connector on one end. Fed it through the 'can' via the grommet and soldered it to the lower (protected side) terminal of the circuit breaker. Re-installed the CB and plugged the spade connector into the LOWER female spade connector for the Pwr Windows. This way there are no back circuits and it only draws 113 milliamps to illuminate the Pwr Window switches.

Make sure windows are all the way up if you can operate windows with out key in. Tight seal on doors and security alarm.
I have gotten into customer's cars that have locked their key inside, by pushing the power door lock button.

Missouri Mule,

You are absolutely correct, you give up some security for this convenience. I ALWAYS use the security system and the windows are closed all the way. I guess I could build a little protective cover to flip over the controls when I thought the added security was warranted but I could also just remove my jumper when I park the truck. It takes about 5 seconds to pull the fuse panel door and slip the circuit breaker out. #ad

I took a switch, cut the toggle off short, mounted it in the rear side of the hand grip on the drivers door and it supplies power from the lock circuit to the window switch when on. This prevents the battery from being drained by the lites (LED) in the switches and the windows only work when the switch is on. With the stub on the switch, its hard to throw but its safer in my mind and its in a harder place to get at (no "accidents").

Just my 0. 015$ worth (4 wat its worth!)

Mick, You dont look like you need any security where you live. I looked at your pictures and the background in the shots of you truck looks beautiful!! You cant see the mountains in my pictures because all the buses and skyscrapers are blocking the view!!(ha ha ha) I like looking at the pictures of where some of you guys are from -Some of you guys live in some beautiful scenery.

Ben,
I like your idea but when I checked the drain of those LED's it was only 113 milliamps. Ought to take about 39 weeks of not running the truck at all to drain the batteries. #ad
Since the lock switch is hot all the time, I don't think having the power windows hot makes much difference a tall.

RedNut,
I grew up at the west edge of your state, right where Ohio, PA and WV meet. I like my current scenery better. Those are the Catalina Mountains just NE of Tucson. I'm at 3,000 feet and those hills are about 5,500. Only 26 miles to my NE I can be at 10,000 feet. I like it here in the "desert" #ad

I think Tucson is one of the best-kept secrets ever. Not quite what you think of as real desert.

If you are woried about security issues, you could have an alarm lock out the windows when it is armed. While you are at it, you can have the alarm roll down your windows for you. Most people are used to windows being locked out without the key so they don't even bother to try. That doesn't mean that they won't though. #ad
