want strart when turn key

some time when I turn the key nothing happens when it in park can turn the 3 or 4 times then it will start. I had this one other time and the dealer replaced some electrice parts on streelwheel could this be nutral switch would like to fix myself if I can . my truck is a 04 3500 with 260000 miles I use this as my work truck so I start it 20 or 30 times a day thanks for any help

If when you turn the switch and nothing happens... you need to try and decide where the problem is at... . that means while the switch is in the crank position... . wiggle the gear shift and see if it cranks... move the tilt wheel and see if it cranks... in both cases your moving different connections... . if while moving one or the other the engine starts to crank. . you've narrowed down the problem... I'd than pull the dash down... and go though the process again now moving just wires or connectors and try and narrow down the problem... than replace the related part... .

Without some electrical troubleshooting it's going to be impossible to tell you what the exact problem is. It could very well be the neutral safety switch but it could also be the starter solenoid or even the ignition switch.



The Dodge part number for the neutral safety switch is 56045489AC. You should be able to pick one up at any good auto part store or a genuine Dodge part online from someplace like MoparPartsAmerica for under $35.



You can buy a starter solenoid rebuilt kit from Geno's Garage.
