Hey guys, I'm helping my 20yr old son find a 3rd gen Dodge. Cummins, 4x4, quad cab. Prob 48RE. Gray/silver/beige/etc.
Solid truck mechanicly, low rust.
He dosnt mind doing small stuff but does not want to do a rebuild.
East/central PA, willing to travel a few hundred miles for the right rig.
If you guys see one, let me know!

Well, we found a 06 3500 48RE, Well maintained truck. I'm a lil jealous as this one is nice with factory options like power windows/mirrors that my st dosnt have. The newer 3rd gens are nicer on the inside compared to my 04.5.
I'm happy for him!
Comes with a banks econo-mind tuner that plugs in to several sensors but we can't find a switch.
Supposed to give on-the-fly adjustable power levels up to 100hp.
Has a aftermarket muffler that looks like a straight through but dosnt have fiberglass packing. (When I tap on the outside it has a ringing sound) I suspect this is why the exh tone is "tinny". Not too loud though.

I thought all 3500s have cab lights?!
Advice on a quality set of lights? Thanks guys

Beautiful find!!

Only DRWs have cab lights standard.

I used a Mopar kit to install cab lights on my ‘18. I didn’t find many good reviews about the aftermarket ones.

Ok, i didn't know that.
i agree about reviews. Last thing we want is water on the dash or dead lights.
I had replaced my lights with genos 4th gen lights (clear), looks sweet!

Nice looking truck!!... JM2C.. You couldn't pay me enough to put holes in the roof, the 04 and 05 we had both leaked water through the cab lights.. My 20 leaked the other day!, I would not order them and I am jealous you dont have any holes in the roof because I have 8 including that dumb *&@ sunroof. Just couldn't stomach an additional 15k to order one without it. Enjoy the truck, Im shopping for a 06 Mega cab 3500 SRW intermittently now but they're like hens teeth.

I’ve had them on all of my Rams and luckily no leaks.

It's up my son but I know he likes the cool factor. But he's a practical chap so I don't know what he will do. Gonna bug me if he dosnt!

Leaks suck period. We'll I'm happy that my 04.5 is dry 99% of the time.

I'm with you, if mine didn't have the lights, it would take a lot of talking to myself to drill the 1st hole. Not so much about leaks but I'd be paranoid about getting it wrong.

Get into radios! Have drilled many a roof for antennas in the past and first 3/4" hole in current truck a few months ago! If done correctly, they shouldn't leak with normal upkeep.
