2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Want to switch mirrors, have ?'s...

I currently have the rounded, heated mirrors and want to switch to the factory style, flip out towing mirrors. Does anyone have experience making the swap, and if so, what parts do I need to make it happen? Thanks

One of the best mods I have done to date. Took about one afternoon+evening to swap the powered heads onto the 2nd gen bases and wire them up.



Do a search on TDR for something like "tow mirror swap" and you will find hours worth of reading.



Assuming you want to retain power/heated mirrors, then you will need one set of non-powered 2nd gen flip-up mirrors and a set of 3rd gen heated/powered mirrors. Then, you need to swap the powered heads onto the 2nd gen bases and they will bolt right up. Do a search and you will find the instructions and part #'s.

Eric,

You need the new mirrors with the backing plates (that go inside the door). It all comes together if you get them from Dodge. It's a very easy swap. You just hae to take the door panels off. I'd recommend a door clip tool as well - less broken clips that way and much easier. If you want the 3rd gen power/heated ones, you need the bases from the 2nd gen manual tow mirrors to swap onto the 3rd gen mirrors. So you'd need a set of both to be able to mount the power ones. A worthwhile operation if you can afford it. If you could find a set of broken 2nd gen mirrors with good bases at a salvage yard, that would be a more affordable way to go. Then you would just have to buy the new 3rd gen mirrors.

I found a used pair of non-power flip up mirrors for $100. I bought the 3rd gen power mirrors from my local DC dealer. I don't recall the exact price but I think it was in the $350 to $375 range for the pair.

try wyatt arp dodge in texas... . I am ordering mine today... 1 pair of 2nd gen non power tow mirrors, and one pair of 3rd gen powert tow mirrors... ... with shipping, it comes to 475.
