Anyone know of anyone getting rid of a JR's little HX55? 64 wheel with a 14 housing

i am running a set of Don'm 6's and need to keep her cool, i know the SPS66 is also a good choice but i didn't want any surging, i also looked at a full B-1

yes i did check the classified's

What makes JR's HX55 different than an HTB2

JR's 55 moves a lot more air than a HTB2. ;)

I have a HTB2 with JR's laser cut DV's, #100 plate, & PDR 370's... . I can drive my pyro needle to china! :-laf

With as screwed up as sled pulling is getting I may give it up and throw on a set of twins next year.

I think the HX55 will be a little laggy, It is a great pulling charger, but with that DTT your running, I am not for sure if it is the best choice. I looked for one and even talked to Got Smoke about the one he had, but from talking to him it just didn't seem to fit the bill with the tight convertor that I am running. I could have probably gotten it lit, but I think it would have been a struggle at the line. I would like to try one to see how it runs. I have heard of people with surging issues on there SP66 but have not experienced it. Friend of mine is running on on his 01 and I have never seen his surge. On my 97 when the convertor locks up it huffs for just a second if you are about half throttle. Normal driving it is fine. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples, don't compare the little 55 to a 62/12 compare it to a 64/14. I believe the little 55 has a 64mm and a 14 exhaust.

In mine & JR's defense I had a "BIG 55" not a little 55 that Graphic Man is wanting. The compressor wheel was much bigger, and wasn't exactly desireable for daily street driving. I have never own a "Little or Baby 55" but have talked to quite a few people and the difference is night and day, all have been real satisfied with it. I was planning to get a Baby 55 after I sold the Big 55 I got tangled up with (assumed it was a Little 55, found out to late. ), but instead I was offered a straight up trade for my HTB2 that I gladly took. ;)

So JRs lil 55 is the same as a HTT KillerB2?

No JR's Lil 55 is a bit larger than a HTB2. I'm not quite sure what size the compressor wheel is but I can find out. The HTB2 comes with a 64mm wheel.

If JR's turbo has a 64 wheel then why does it pump more air?

Turbine size?

I could be wrong here again... . :-laf ..... but I thought the compressor housing was bigger? Someone else wanna step up and set me straight? :-laf

Man I've been out of the turbo specs for a while. ;)

just by talking to Jr about turbos , id say yes the turbine is bigger but dont know for sure , i know he likes a bigger turbine wheel on them ,

Turbine size is the key. There are numerous benefits of running a larger tubine wheel. Less surge, cooler egts, and lower drive pressures(got get air out too ;) ) are a few advantages. These advantages are best realized with the use of a properly tuned external wastegate.

As for zstroken's concerns for getting one of J. R. 's 55's lit with a tight converter, I see so issue. The charger J. R. built me is MUCH larger than the lil' 55 and I have no problem street driving the turbo. I believe the inducer size on the compressor wheel is around 72. 5 mm; this charger also utilizes a large turbine, and a 17cm housing. I have a tight DTT converter on top of that!

The power is insane... at only 45 lbs. (about 2/3 throttle) of boost at 75 mph my back tires were hopping and skipping while I was passing a guy pulling a trailer:eek: ... . Pretty unsettling the first time you lose traction at those kinds of speed!!!

I found that even though I may not be making any boost to speak of at low rpm (under 1800), there is still enough air being shuffled into the cylinders to drive normally.

Hope this helps a little.

Like I said taking nothing away from JR cause I had him do sme pump work for me a while back and he was helpful. I thought he told me that the little 55, may not spool well enough for me. I do believe it is like a 64/14. From my talks with him he does like the larger turbine wheels. I am guessing because at higher compressor speeds you need something to push on the exhaust turbine to keep the compressor spinning. I could be mistaking on the little 55 not lighting very well. I just remember talking to him last year before I got my HTT charger. If someone wants to trade a big 55 for an HTT charger let me know. I would like to see how one runs.

I would contact II and ask about the Custom SPS64 for over fueled ISBs or PM LUKE WARMWATER and ask him about his.
