These things seem to be going for 350 bucks or so on ebay, but there's no way I can afford that. Does anyone know where to get one at a reasonable price, even if it needs to be repaired to make it work? I know there's quite a few of you guys on here in the train industry... someone help me out pleeez :)

Thanks,

Josh

Dude. . you can get lots for way less than $350... you must be looking at the gucci train horns! I found a set of black 4 trumpets, or chrome 3 trumpet sets for $250... 406 Chrome shop, Weatherford Tx... Also, check America's Truck Wash and Chrome Shop they have them too. . if you need, PM me and I will give you my preferred customer card #... . hehe

real train horns might require a little too much air to run right in a pickup truck. our units have a 3/8"npt line running to the horns [3-5 trumpit] along the roof, and runs 130-140 psi... and they are a little too big to try and smuggle broken ones out [to rebuild:D   ]

The only problem I see with those big horns is where to mount them. If you are going with a roof install, no problem. Stealth might take some thinking. A few years ago, I decided I needed ( okay, wanted) air horns and I didn't want sissy horns. I ended up buying 2 single Grovers from Ricksons and built a mount for them under the front bumper. They are loud and very deep to say the least. I didn't want to be bothered with a compressor as I knew their use would wear off somewhat, so I simply added to large air tanks to the interior of my tool box to feed them (22 gallons total). I really don't see why you couldn't build your own set for less $$$ by adding a 3rd short horn to the mix.

Whatever you do, make sure you wire the solenoid for the horns into the OEM horn system, makes for a good laugh when you hit the panic button if you have keyless entry ;) . I've personally seen more than one soccer mom throw her coffee into the air when I 'accidentally' hit the panic button to open my doors.

Thanks all, for the tips... as far as a real train horn being too big... isn't that the point? :D I have a buddy who's friend mounted his under the bed of the truck and supplied the 1/2" line with a medium sized tank. It won't blast for a long duration but the coolness factor is still up there. Thanks for the links. . I'll check it out. .
