What is the proper way to start and warm up the Cummins? Is it warm it to 140 and then drive easy until operating temps are reached or should I let it idle until operating temps are reached?
You will sit for a long time if you wait for those temp. numbers. Most people on here including myself let it run for a min. or two in neutral, make sure your oil press. up and then drive away slowly. It warms a lot faster driveing than setting idling.
These things will NOT warm up idleing. Since there is a lot of wear running a cold engine you want it to warm up quickly. So, like Diesel Freak says, when you have oil pressure leave. Just take it easy until you have some temp.
