My dad just called me and said his truck was making noises for no apparent reason. The truck is an '04 2500 2wd automatic. He said the other day his "lamp out" dummy light light was flickering on and off. Now the lamp out light isn't on, but the dummy alarm won't quit dinging. The truck has no mods and has around 40,000 miles on it.

Check the brake/tail lights. More than likely, the plastic on the bulb base is slightly melted along one of the wires and it making the computer think that the bulb is burned out. If so, you can just trim down the plastic so it makes a good connection.

It's funny you post this right now, cause I'm having the exact same problem.

That stupid ding has been driving me crazy. I first thought it was a reverse light, cause there was two times when the truck was sitting still and I shifted in to reverse and it dinged. So I removed the tail lights and removed the reverse bulbs. I put the bulbs back in but filled the sockets with di-electric grease. That didn't help  . Then on this last Saturday, me, the wife, and friends were driving to the movies, and it started dinging like crazy. When we left the theater we did a light check and my friend noticed that one of my liscense plate illuminator lights was dead.

It's been 5 days and a lot of driving and it hasn't done it since. I'm guessing/hoping that it was the problem light, and now it's finally dead.

My 98 12v did that all the time. fuel sender and oil sender went out almost every other month.

Dealer always told me to turn up the stereo and forget about it

I had the same problem about a year or so ago. All the bulbs were fine and working good. Turned out to be the circuit board that the bulbs hook into. They replaced both boards in back and used the same bulbs and it has worked perfectly ever since. :D
