Warning New Virus

A new virus hit Shell Oil this morning. If you receive an e mail from someone and you open it, it says " saw this screen saver and thought of you". Don't click on the icon. It starts sending out emails from your address book. Opening the email doesn't hurt anything and it will probably be from someone you know. You have been warned

It does hurt something too. I manage the email people at our company and they are busy trying to stop the propagation of thousands of e-mail messages on our servers.



I also heard that it creates a "service" on NT and Win2K that starts back up at reboot.

You could be correct. I saw what was happening and immediately powered off my machie and contacted the virus people. Hopefully they will get it cleaned up. I have seen it pop up on my machine several more times and deleted it. It didn't send out any more emails, so I don't know.

We had the people here fighting that one here for about half an hour. People just don't get it that you shouldn't open stuff like that when 50 identical emails come across.
