noticed a strange sound coming from the turbo area on one of our duallys. took it to dealer and one of the bolts that attach the ex manifold to the head had backed out. the next week another of our drivers came in with the same problem. on this identical truck one bolt had backed out another was completely gone. look for a recall on this soon.

Another member posted recently that his stealer wouldn't perform the TSB unless the bolts were loose or missing.

Moral to this story: Don't tighten them before goin' to the stealer

I tightened mine.......

And it hasn't come loose yet. I believe they weren't properly torqued from the factory myself. A few others have posted the same thing.

Asked the stealer to give me the retention straps and I would put them on myself. They want the warranty money from DC though. I forgot what the price was to buy them but it must have been too much as usual.

Just stopped in at the dealer. . They ordered the straps and the missing spacer, on mine. . I just showed up with the TSB in hand. The service clerk and I walked over to parts and he ordered the straps by the part number on the TSB, and order the spacer. He just glanced at my truck from inside the building, never even asked for miles on the truck, or to look under the hood. . Just said they were a little busy the rest of the week, but stop in sometime next week, and we'll put them on while U wait. . (glad I'm not the on putting them on while its hot. . :D If you just purchase the straps they are about $4 for the set. . There is also a SN# break for the TSB, but I think it includes all 24V's that do not have the locking straps, only thing I don't like about this is that is says they are a one time use only, not the bend over taps like others use. .

Good Luck

Bryan

I looked under the hood after I got back from the dealer, and I was about to lose another bolt and spacer, should end that routine next week...

Well, the early 2001. 5 did not have them. . it depends on the SN # for the engine. . I think most of the 2001. 5 made about Oct of 2000 and later should have had the straps, mine was made in Sept... (Now if that isn't confusing. . ) check out the TSB it has the SN# numbers listed...
