I hate to ask but water in oil (using water 1/2 gal per oil change water never in oil for 3 years) using 1/2 gal in 80mi so I changed the head gasket/oil+filter ran the truck 54mi turbo failure water in oil not much but did I fix the problem? the question was in my mind. changed turbo/oil+filter ran truck to work used 1/4 gal 100mi is this burbing and me parinoid? or dose any one not think the head is warped. I pulled a small trailer empty and it started over heating that was the reason for the gaset change.

Any time you pull a head it should be checked with a straight edge... ... ..... Did you find a failure of the gasket when you pulled it?

Bob

the failure was beetween the coolant passage and push tube passage the sealing ring on the gasket was flaking off on only one section so thats where I thaught it was leaking

the cost of work is tripple here in MS I would like to get it back to WV where I have resorces 1300mi is kinda far though.

$75hr exaust shop charged $248 to enlarge my turbo down pipe from stock to 4" in to my existing 5" down pipe they welded in a 8" section of 4" and I supplied the parts they charged 3 hrs for the job and my down pipe was allready off the truck how can I get this truck home?

Shop around for a shop there , maybe some one here can tell ya about a shop there, getting your truck home might cost more than getting anybody to fix it .
You might want to start a 2nd post and moniter both , 2nd something like , broke down in MS , home in WV .

I called the machine shop to day and kicked my self in the but. its only $40 to machine the head they will take "the minimum required to true it" I should have done it but did not know. I was able to pull the head myself last time so Im only out the parts. this time I will be striping the head and will put heavy valve springs and thinner carbon dams (. 020 hd gskt) and if I can find a place I will pocket port the head (that is if the strate edge says machining will fix it and its not cracked) is there any thing else Im missing?

I just posted this on your other thread but from what I was told you can pretty much bet a 12v head needs trued when it's pulled because they're warp-prone.

Vaughn

vaughn you probbly think im the "brake down kid" don't ya? If my luck don't change I may just start over with another truck. thanks guys for everithing.

I once did a head gasket on my cousin's '97 without surfacing the head and it blew again a short while later. I did the job right the second time and it's still holding well over 100k later. A friend did a gasket on his '95 without surfacing and it's holding fine still but it was only an external coolant leak he had, not a compression leak like my cousin.

for any one else I would not do this job with out having the head surfaced but when we hurry we skip and miss stuff. my hind sight and education grow larger day to day. thanks
