I’ve got a rear axle seal leaking and rear diff fluid is all over the emergency brake pads, rotor and inner brake pad. I know the seal is covered under warranty, but would the rest of it be covered being it’s ruined because of the seal? I haven’t contacted the dealer yet, just want to know what to expect.

One dealer told me they refuse to work on the rear axle because of my after-market differential cover. But since It's just a slight week and not a leak, I'm going to wait and see. I think it seeped for a bit. Then stopped?????

Well, the seal was covered, the brake parts were not.

I almost told you that would probably happen, wheel seal failures under warranty on Class 5-8 trucks do not include brake shoe damage.

I was hoping you might have a different result but would have been surprised....

With the past service I’ve received from the local dealers, I wasn’t expecting much going in today. I was hopeful, but not surprised. Today’s visit started off not good. Service manager comes out and asks why I’m there. I tell him right rear axle seal is leaking and I have wet soot blowing out of a gasket under the hood. I open the hood to show him. He says, oh, that’s normal. Most people don’t know that these diesel engines emit a lot of carbon and sometimes it leaks thru gaskets, completely normal. My 16 year old son says to him, you did not just say that. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a long time. YOU must not know much about diesels. Is there someone else here we can talk to? The guy just walked away.

Then, the mechanic comes out of the shop a while later and asks me to come with him. He brings me to my truck up on the lift and says, who told you the axle seal was leaking? I said, I did. He says, how did you come to that conclusion? I said, well, I’m not an ase certified mechanic, but even I can see where the diff fluid is sprayed all over the dust shield, axle tube, rim and tire. If you get close enough, you can even smell it. The mechanic says to me, I saw it, but his boss wanted me to show him.
This is the kind of stuff people have to put up with at dealerships around here.

I would contact Chrysler about that!!!
We’re going to. It might not get us anywhere, but we’re going to try. I feel it’s pretty cut and dry as to how the pads and rotor got damaged. The other three brakes look almost brand new. This one is the only one leaking and everything is completely shot.

That's awful.....if we did that kind of stuff to our customer base we would be out of business.....

As mentioned ask them why are they covering all down stream damage if the water pump goes out???
