Idea regarding low tongue weight of stock reciever

Here is my dilemma. My truck has 42,000 miles on it right now. I can buy a factory extended warranty up until the 48,000 mile mark. For a 7/70 warranty it will cost me $1080. That warranty has a $100 deductible. That price is from http://www.extended-warranty-pro.com/770.html

At this time my hydroboost unit is leaking, my steering box is leaking, and my oil pan is leaking. The oil pan leak should be covered under the 100k engine warranty so I am not to concerned about it. The dealer estimated $725 just to change out the hydroboost unit. I can probably do this repair myself and save some money. But number one I don't think I should be having to do repairs like this on my truck with only 42k on it. And what if this is a sign of what I should expect on down the road. Will there be more things popping up.

If I buy the warranty will the dealer deny me coverage with an excuse that I let the warranty lapse and then bought the extended warranty when I started having problems? Also when I where these tires out at the end of the year I would like to put on a leveling kit and 35" tires, what will they say to that?

Please help, I would like to purchase the warranty, then wait a few months before having the hydroboost and steering box fixed to give a little time between the purchase and the repair.

Thanks,

Joe

I looked at doing the same thing this past week. My truck has just over 38,000 miles and I called my local dealer and they will still sell me a extended bumper to bumper warranty. Ive heard of some of these warranties not being DC backed, you need to be careful on what you by. Also is that warranty that your looking at start the day you purchase it or the day you truck hit the road. I found a 5yr. 70,000 mile extended warr. from the dealer would cost me $1,299. 00 and that starts from the purchase date of warranty and of coarse is DC backed. I dont see how the dealer could deny you coverage as long as they dont know you have any probs. I would do like you said, if you can hold off a little while before having your problems fixed would be a good idea. ( just my advice)

JJoiner,

When I talked to the guy at extended warranty pro.com he told me that it is a DC warranty. He told me that the prices can be set by each dealer that is why they vary so much. I will check into the start date of the warranty on Monday. I believe there is also some sort of surcharge, I need to check into that also.

Has your dealer denied any work on your truck due to your mod's. I am thinking of putting on an edge after I get gauges installed.

Thanks,

Joe

not yet. Havent had any problems except for a noise under the front end. Every time I go to the dealer I always pull my edge out just incase.

I have been looking at those, too.

Check this site {eservicecontracts.com}

They didn't seem to have all those extra surcharges.

They only had $150 surcharge for diesel.

I bought the extended warranty. So far it's been a waste of money. I spent about $1250 to buy the Max Care 5yr/100k warranty with the $100 deductible. It has covered the cost of the power steering gear box and a brake caliper. Everything else has basically been denied by DCX.

The answer is yes

Joe, I bought the dealer's extended warranty and have been eternally grateful. It's bumper to bumper for 7 years or 100,000 whichever comes first. I paid too much and actually think the price can be negotiated down. That said, I've seen too much to think I won't save more than what I paid.

Examples: heater blower problem fixed: cost $100. W/O warranty: $600

Ball joints replaced: cost: $100. W/O warranty: $1100

U-joint replaced: cost: $100. W/O warranty: forgot but a bunch of $$$

Just watch out when you take your truck back for warranty repair. Dealers have a way of building the ticket (finding non-warranty stuff that needs fixing) so as to get in your hip pocket that way. Nothing wrong with this as long as whatever they find really needs fixing. Just a word to the wise.

The best thing you can do is build a good relationship with your dealer. That way they are less likely to build a ticket on you.
