My brother just a bought a used 2001. 5 CTD. Having possible steering problems. Has less than 36,000 miles. Does the warranty transfer to him so that steering problem might be covered ? Or, does the warranty expire with the first owner?
The factory warranty is automatically transfered to the new owner. When I purchased my 2000 used I made a call to Dodge just to update the ownership record of the truck.
When I bought my '01, I had to fill out a mass of paperwork for daimler/chrysler and pay a $50. 00 transfer fee that I saw was manditory for all proper warranty transfers.
Was this because my truck had an extended warranty? I'm not sure. Just letting you know my experience.
Bought a used 2000 and it was automatic for all the warranty that covered that vehicle when it was sold new 5 year 100K mile engine, 7 year 70K mile emissions/ (drive train for newer models) and 3 year 36K mile bumper to bumper. But you should have your brother call the number in the back of his warranty book and give them his name as the new owner so he will get word of any recalls in the future.
