Have only worked on a couple (03's) with a "bad" drone. The vibration analyzer most often shows it as an engine vibration, 3rd order. That means it is most likely normal engine firing frequency vibrations. Not sure why one truck is different than another, because mine does it to some extent, and has for 20,000 miles. I think this truck is so much quieter and nicer riding that you feel it more. This engine would have the same firing frequency as 2nd gen, so that would not be any different. Grounded mounts or lines can transmit the normal vibrations, but I have never seen a grounded engine mount, or A/C hose etc, causing the problem. I figure a vibration is very subjective, and what one person thinks is bad is normal to another. I think the drive line vibrations some have because of incorrect angles might also be the cause of some drone complaints.
I do not know if STAR is working on anything. I think right now they are just trying to use a logical approach to help technicians confirm the condition, and determine if it is really a problem.
