No, but if you run it and aren't qualified to run it, your states' revenue department will make you sorry you did. Of course they have to catch you first.

I filled up with it by accident last summer in Colorado. My mileage went to total crap... . dropped from 17 down to 11. I ran that tank to empty, filled up with regular #2 and my mileage went back to normal. The problem is that Ag Diesel tends to sit in the station's tanks for a long time, because farmers normally keep the stuff in their own tanks on their farms.

I know of a case where the warranty work was denied. My family own sa dealership, had a guy that (about 15 years ago now) had fuel and running problems with the truck. Every rubber fuel line on the truck was swelled and soft, when the tech checked the tank it had red dye in the fuel. Warranty coverage was denied due to illegal road fuel.

*IF* you use your CTD on the farm or ranch and not on public highways, red dye fuel shouldn't void the warranty. Take the plates off and tow it to the dealer?

It is pretty simple,if you take the truck in any where and you want to fight over it all it takes is one quick phone call to bust you on the red fuel law... ... something like a $5k fine plus the unpaid tax on the fuel in the tank at the time. #@$%!

Well... .

FWIW I have seen diesel fuel treatment in a clear plastic bottle that was RED. The color certainly surprized me.

Plausible Deniability

Might be an option.

Bob,

When I was in Arkansas, a trucker I was talking to on the CB to keep me awake told me that if you get nailed filling up with AgDiesel, you get a $10K fine, the attendant on duty gets a $10K fine and the station gets a $10K fine. I don't know if that's true, but holy crap it would definitely make me think twice before doing it on purpose. I was sweating it, when I realized that I had filled up with it in CO.

I'm sure the fines on that stuff vary from state to state, but as far as I understand it here, the fine is the per gallon tax rate times every gallon that truck has ever used in it's life. The theory is that if you have it in your tank now, you've probably been doing it a while, but the state has no idea how long, so they will tax you as much as possible. They check your odometer, figure out an average mpg for the truck and divide the two to get an average number of gallons used over the life of the truck. This is then multiplied by the per gallon tax rate for on road diesel and you get your bill. You can see that if your truck has some years and miles on it, this would be a HUGE bill. Good incentive to not get caught!

On the reliability side of this issue, I know of a municipal govt. that uses it and only it in ALL it vehicles, big trucks, snow plows, dumps, many pickups... CTDs, Pjokes, Dmaxs. This is a city of over 100,000 with 100s of diesel engines, no problem because it is AG..... there is concern for ULSD!

i filled the truck from gas cans with red fuel, off road, we were out hunting and planned on burning all the red fuel up while out hunting, it wasnt being ran on the street, i am very aware of the law so if you dont have info, stop assuming the worst, for the guys with answers, thanks...
