I am stationed in Germany and recently bought a 2011 2500. I have around 5500 mi on it and am past my 6 month due time for oil change. I went to the dodge dealership here and they will not let me get an oil change until one year or 6000 mi. they also want to charge me around $170. 00 and I bring in my own oil. I want to take it to the base Army Air Force Exchange (AAFES) car care center and save around $100. 00. Will it be covered under warranty if I take it to someplace else other than the dealership in Germany? The dealership also said dodge will cover the warranty under European standards on oil changes.

Did they have a reason for not wanting you to change the oil?

Many dealerships advise changing the oil for the first time at 500 miles.

I would change the oil, keep your receipt as proof and not worry about it. You can't hurt a motor by changing the oil too often.

What does your owners manual state?

I haven't read an owner's manual or maintenance schedule for a 2011 but my understanding is all Dodge Ram pickup trucks with ISB6. 7 Cummins engine are supposed to follow the oil change schedule determined by the ECM and indicated by an oil change light in the overhead digital readout. I have not heard anything about a six month service interval.

You are not required by warranty provisions to have a dealer change your oil. You can do it yourself in the auto shop on base or have it done at the base exchange but keep receipts for oil and filter, maintain a record with odometer miles, date, and name of facility performing service. And don't forget to reset the oil change counter. The procedure is in your owner's manual.

My advice is to use ONLY MOPAR or Fleetguard filters and quality engine oil meeting the specs prescribed in your owner's manual. You can purchase filters in bulk quantity from Geno's.

I just looked thru some various manuals I have saved... A time interval for oil changes is on every vehicle I have owned, and manual I have read. This is becuase oil degrades even if its not being used.

From the 2011 manual.

When prompted by the Engine Oil Indicator System, the
engine oil and filter must be changed. If not prompted by
the Engine Oil Indicator System within 7,500 miles
(12 000 km) or six months since the last oil and filter
change, replace the engine oil and engine oil filter. Under
no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed
7,500 miles (12 000 km) or six months, whichever comes
first.

2008 pickup.

• The oil change indicator message will not monitor the
time since the last oil change. Change your vehicle's
oil if it has been six months since your last oil change
even if the oil change indicator message is NOT
illuminated.
• Under no circumstances should oil change intervals
exceed 8,000 miles (13 000 km) or six months, whichever
comes first.

2008 C&C doesn't have a paragraph, but where miles and kilometers are listed is also a month. Oil change intervals are 7500 miles, 15K km, or 6 months. . whichever occurs first for miles vs time.

2005/2006 read the same as 2008 C&C for schedule "A", schedule "B" has no time limit, but the miles are half of schedule "A"

The only reason they gave me was due to European standards. I ended up calling dodge and they said to just take it to the place on post. My belief is the dealer ship here in Germany is full of **** plus they want to charge me 130. 00 Euros and bring my own oil in that's around a total price of $245. 00 for an oil change on post its going to cost me around $100. 00 total. I think I'll just stick with the people on post.

Thanks for the help
