<font color=blue>Well after much thought, and putting it off I finally took my truck in for some warrenty work. Had a list of about 7 things I wanted looked at main thing was transfer case seal was leaking. Also getting that lovely "pop" or "thud" in the steering, and of course its not doing it now! But a salesman "parked" my truck when I was driving a Mustang last week and told me he heard it. I had been putting it off just to avoid the hassle and the chance of them screwing something else up.....

Anyhow heres the list :
  • Transfer Case seal leaking
  • Pop or Thud in the steering (annoying)
  • Right tailight out (been out since Oct!, changed bulb twice, wiring problem)
  • Power Mirrors dont work (left unplug when stereo was installed! #ad
    )
  • Power window, Power lock button broke and fell into the door (Stereo install again! #ad
    )
  • Carpet on bottom of drivers side door coming unglued (tried to blame it on stereo install too, wrong!)
  • Asked them to check lift pump out for kicks

So 2 of the things I can "believe" the stereo install caused... . thats a whoooole nother post in itself.

I did remove my PE for this visit based on them telling Doug Hatfield he needed a new injection pump when all he had was air in his system! I left the harness in, just hid it #ad

Surprised they didn't tell me the transfer case seal wasn't warrenty due to my shiftkit in the transmission..... (I did tell them it was in there).

Oh well the quicker I can get it back the quicker I can play with it again #ad
The weathers nice soooo its time to do things been putting off "for winter".

Just had to vent a lil, so far been about 8 phone calls back and forth. <font size=-2>

Took mine in yesterday for 1st free oil change- figured I'd let them wrestle with the factory tightened one. Also had a problem with running hot while towing, and asked them to check out the thermostat.

Got the call to say truck was done, and they said couldn't find overheat problem even by putting 22 miles on it at speeds up to 90 mph. #ad
Like I told them in the beginning- it was while towing #ad

Checked out the truck when I went to pick it up, was 1 qt. low on oil, and antifreeze down to add mark. Had to fight to make them top these items off. Burned 1/4 tank of fuel on the non productive test drive. Shoulda measured the tire tread depth too, I guess.

So much for 5 crap service.

Guys-
I too can relate to all of your warranty woes;
-four times to two different dealers for fog lamp problems(still not working)
-three times to two different dealers for steering problems(still lousy)
-second door on drivers side works only when it wants to
-once to dealer regarding leaky transfer case; dealer blamed fluid on breather bottle leaking down and flowing back
-clear coat peeling on right front quarter panel; dealer stated they would need truck for four days to repair--all the while I have to pay rental fees for a vehicle to drive

With over 27,000 miles on the truck, whats going to happen once I pass 36,000 miles?

Sorry if I sound like a big complainer, but when you dish out close to $40K for a wehicle, we shouldn't have these kind of problems--just my 2cents worth!

Heh I have been putting off the dealer too. With 30k on the truck since August, it wont be long before im up an warranty. Here is my list:

~4X4 runs rough
~driver window doesnt roll up all the time.
~squeeky steering colum, (two differnt sqeecks actually, one when I turn the wheel and the other just driving normal. DRIVES ME NUTS. )
~knocking noise under my feet when i hit a bump.

Had my share since I bought my first 91. Sometimes you can just talk to them but then sometimes you have to raise hell, threats, throw a fit and it goes on. It shouldn't be that way when you pay what these cost.

5 days for a front axle seal is the worst one for me so far, I am hoping that will be the worst service I ever get. The only saving grace is they pay for the rental when they have my truck.

Mine just past the dreaded 36K mark, but the good news is no problems to repair. Had a transmission go T/U at 18K, fixed no problem in one week. No trouble since.

Been a great truck!

Sky,

I have that squeak in my steering too, only on turns, more to the right than to the left. Very little when straight ahead. Of course you need a gravel road or something rough too. Anybody have any clue what causes this? I will soon take it to the dealer for this, but I think I have seen this posted here more than once.

Shelby

SteveAZ, didn't you have the squeak while turning. I had mine in for repiar work ,and the squeak while driving over anything slightly rough. Turned out to be a front link bushing.
Ahhhh! It is so quite now, all you hear is the mighty Cummins singing its song. Then I nail the throttle to leave someone in a black cloud. I love this truck, it is so much fun.

Brother can I relate. If you haven't done so read my post "Vibration after dealer worked on truck". They are trying to make it right, but sometimes I think they get these mechanics a little to busy to put all of their attention into one job at a time.

Well so far its been "ok", just a hassle really, not to mention the lil F150 gasser I am stuck with ... ...

We'll see how it turns out I guess, it hasn't been all that bad... just yet.

Just was board and posted that after a somewhat "heated" conversation with the service manager.

Edit - Answering some questions on this post... ...

Douglas H. - Thanks, got your email. And glad they admitted screwing up.

Lurch - Yes that was "my" intentions, but they said they can't let one go for "2 days" because of insurance purposes, So they told me come get one 8am, and bring it back at 8pm. Just haven't done it yet, because I might as well wait for the 2002 production to start. Mostly liekly I'll jsut get the Mustang and keep my truck.

Kevin - Well its noted on the reciept, and the stereo place is my next stop tommorrow (they closed now) Gonna see what they have to say, I told the dealer to just fix it because I wanted it all done and finished. I do wanna sawp my head unit for the new Kenwood MP3 Player, so I will be happy with "credit" towards that. We'll see what they say, all I know is I won't be going there again, just call it a "learning" experience. I jsut hate dealing with the "electrical" aspect of things is all.

<font color=blue>Well so far so good. They had the truck from Wed 9am until Friday 2pm.

  • Tailamp Assembly replaced
  • Transfer case rear oil seal and outputshaft seals replaced
  • Intake Air Temp Sensor replaced (told them check grid heaters)
  • Power Mirrors were loose connection
  • Track bar replaced
  • Bought new plastic bezal for window/door lock
  • Reglued carpet drivers side door
  • Change fuel filter (no charge)
  • Reflashed me with #18-024-00

So they did a decent job once we got past the carpet arguement. And after I threw in the fact my "family" has bought several vehicles there (98 Contour(mom), 96 Olds achiva(Dad, now my lil sisters), 2001 SuperCrew F150(Dad), 2001 Dodge (mine), and a pending 2001 Mustang Gt Convertable order)

The tech that worked on my truck found me before I left, he wanted to know bout the exhaust and some other things, so in the course of conversation he told me if any diesel trucks come in with "Aftermarket chips" they have to call Chrysler and notify them. He said turbos and injectors are easy to slip by. Just thought I would share that info, like I said this is from the tech not the service manager. Unfortunatly hes not on the "net", so i gotta call him back with some information, see if I can get him to join the TDR. I'll order an extra Issue 32 and give it to him.

I removed my PE, left the harness in jsut "hid it" behind more wires. Now I am glad I did.

Thanks to those that allowed me to vent. I guess I made it sound worse then it actually was, but at the time of this first post I was furious.

Hey Shelby,

Yup turning to right is the worst for me too. When I go on a on ramp if its bumpy its the worst. Or any long turns. I will be in Bend from Tuesday to thursday, if you want to try out my EZ or any thing. Let me know!

Sky

Ps. I took my truck into my dealer yesterday and they switched my window switch out right there on the spot it works great now!

Welp, looks like the transfer case is leaking again. Fresh ATF has been spotted twice now (after wiping it down). This stinks, tired of leaving the PE off the truck #ad

Kat, is it the seal on the output housing thats leaking??? I had the seal replaced twice to no avail then the third time was the whole housing plus a little fluid removed and all is well. If it is over filled just a little it seems to weep by the seal... ... . Pete

man! you are lucky! it took me half an hour just to type up the abbreviated version of my dealership experience! read my post to "bombed truck quit running"
