When parked no gear works but park does! The transmission has been worked very hard with over 370,000 miles. Has towed over 60%. It is a Sun Coast which has been wonderful. It has the billet input shaft, hd flex plate etc.

Ant ideas?

I will call someone in Twin Falls, ID in the morning. I am in a rest area!

If you can help call me at 864-567-1263

After I posted I thought the input was very likely too. I have personally had a converter go out though (the spline broke off the turbine) but it was a lot louder than a pop, it was more like getting hit by a sledge hammer.

Same thing happened to me, although I didn't hear a pop, it was a broken Input shaft. Took out the whole trans and TQ conv. due to where it broke.

be sure to have that flex plate checked if it's the input shaft . I didn't specify and it cost me the crank shaft 30k later.

Just did my input shaft as well. If it was the intermediate shaft I don't think it will hold itself in park.

It's Sunday and I haven't heard yet the problem. I think they worked on it Saturday.

They are a Sun Coast Dealer so they should know high performance and check things.

If I can have it by Tuesday evening I can get back to Little Rock by Thursday to pick up another wind tower blade going to Shelby, MT. I am a pilot car and steer the trailer around turns. Used to do RV's but that has pretty well faded!

Anyway I too believe and hope it is a clean break in the input shaft, that is a billet shaft, btw!

Yeah just a pop and not even very loud!

I believe there was one billet input that is prone to fail although I couldn't tell you which one it was.
Somebody else might know the answer.

That sounds like exactly what happened to mine. Im expecting to find out its the input shaft. Mines a 2pc billet TCS? Im probably gonna croak when I here what its gonna cost. Not really looking forward to it. I just hope its not too big a bill... .

Here's the results! $$$

Well the verdict is in!

The splines on the converter stripped and the input shaft was damaged. Converter will be rebuilt, about $450 after freight. New input shaft, something like $700. But the new one is supposed to be better than the Sun Coast. Sun Coast is willing to sell me their $1295 converter for $450 exchange (plus freight). The direct drum clutches were totally burned. The clutch packs are worn. The OD casing needs replacing due to wear causing the circle clip to wear its groove.

Total rebuild about $5000-6000 out the door probably Friday. Double Tree Hotel $66. 00 per day! Supposedly better than new. The shop showed me everything. They seem to be right on. They have a 5 star reputation for some 30 years. I could just get another Sun Coast for about the same money but after them showing me a couple of hours of mods they do and out source I am going with them.

Today they loaned me a Suburu.

I am over 2000 miles from home, what else can I do?

Anyone interested in an '05 Dodge Ram hot rod? I need a fuel efficient vehicle to use as pilot car. Minimum 95 inch wheelbase. Possible to sleep in like my Ram.

It was determined that the splines on the converter were a stock part, not hardened as it should have been.

We're at $4934 today... it's just about complete.
