was six speed availible in 98?

I totaled my truck a couple days ago,and Im in the market for another one,I called about a 1998 one ton 4x4 cummins that said its a six speeed,I asked the seller which is a dodge dealer and he assured me that it was indeed a six speed,was this even availble in 98?If so where there any problems with them?

99 was the first year... I waited and waited to order it so I could get the six speed. Finally able to order on Dec 8th, 98, arrived on may 17th, 99. A loong wait, but glad I did it!

If you are interested in the truck, I'd look at the transmission myself. I've seen too many sales people tell you just about anything to get you in the door. Buyer beware is the lesson I had to learn the hard way to boot. Dave

maybe the original owner had the dreaded 5th gear issue and upgraded to a 6 sp. . .

As far as I know, the 6-speed existed in the '98 model year... But not in the US. In my 98 service manual, it lists the DEE as an optional transmission.

'99 was the first year for the DEE in the US, but only 1,500 were made. They are few & far between if you are looking for a used one.

Back in early '97 when I first heard that the six was going to be an option for the '98's I kept on my salesman,but production kept getting pushed back,and it never was available for the '98 trucks. The service manual shows it because it was originally suppose to be available,but never made it. In Dec '98 I was told by the fleet manager I had just missed the order window for a '99 6spd. I was mad after waiting all that time.

I agree with the above post about the sales person saying anything to get you in the door. Two months ago I called a salesman about a used truck and he swore it had 5spd in it. When I got ther it had an automatic. #ad

Thanks for all your input i was going to the dealer tonight to see for my self if it did have a six speed so i call and they said the truck has already been sold.

Or if it is one of these dealers that has more than one dealership they mite of sent it to one there other lots.
