So, I did my, what has become my annual, truck washing... decided that since I'm doing a trip out west and hauling the camper, I should hose the rad, intercooler, condensor, and PS cooler out.

I used a mild detergent, sprayed it in, left it sit, then hosed it out. I was amazed how much dirt (a fine sand/silt) was released out into my newly sealed driveway (made it quite obvious how much dirt was really there)! The rad didn't have much oil or grime in it, but the sand/silt was a surprise.

Where did the silt come from? I mean, was it from the radiator or from the condenser or intercooler?

Sounds like a good idea. I've sprayed my coolers before with the hose, but never took the time to use any detergent on them.

I would assume it was from all the above... I wouldn't see where one would hold dirt more than another...

I still have the streaks of silt in my driveway, it was a significant amount...

Mine gets rinsed at every truck washing in the summer because of the bugs but with one of these KILBY'S CONDENSER GUARD ('03-'07, 5. 9-6. 7L DODGE)-Dodge Cummins and Ford Power Stroke Diesel Truck Accessories - Geno's Garage it has been much easier to clean. It wont do much for the fine stuff but it does help keep the larger bugs from mashing the fins.
