Washington State emissions laws

Planning on loosing the dreaded cat. I don't even know if I need to have this thing tested, or for that matter what the test involves. Has anyone in this state had any problems passing without the cat or been failed on any (if any) visual? Thought about gutting, but some moron welded the cat to an aftermarked muffler #ad
. I should get rid of that too, but want to keep it somewhat quiet. I must be getting old. Anyway, any tips comments or advice is welcome. Thanks.

Go by one of the test stations and ask if they test in your area and what do they look for. I went to the one down the road from me and he said no visual inspection,all they do is a soot (opacity) test. He also said the test is very forgiving on diesels.

I know the WA (contracted) inspectors well. They are also supposed to look under the hood and check the exhaust system, but if your vehicle passes the test they will kindly waive you on your way down the road. If I remember right on the report there is a block for a fuel visual inspection, too.

I sold a Chevy gas van that passed oil at over a quart per thousand and had lost the kitty many years prior. It passed the last inspection... . go figure?
