I'm looking for some advice from you guys running twins with external wastegates on how to set the wastegate opening pressure?
My wastegate has a 9 psi spring. I tapped the intake manifold and plumbed 2 lines - one to the boost side of the wastegate, one through a pressure regulator to the vacuum side of the wastegate. I don't yet have the ability to monitor drive pressures in the manifold.
With the set-up like this, is it correct to assume that if total boost pressure exceeds vacuum pressure (adjusted) by 9 psi (spring pressure) then the wastegate will open, or is there more to the equation than this?
I would ideally like to vary the opening pressure based on the type of driving I'm doing, (ie. spool the top turbo hard for daily driving to decrease lag) but I am afraid to over-spool the top turbo if I am not thinking this through correctly.
Thanks for your time,
- Jason
