Wastegate on the 03's?

How is it plumbed? Which turbo is it (a full HY35 or modifed from the orig one used on the auto's)? Can we use the "drilled" adapter on the turbo side?



Havent seen any of these questions or answers (did a search) for the 3G's.



An inquiring mind (whats left of it) want 2 know!

Currently all model year 03 Engines come with a HY turbo charger.

They are not the same HY that accompanied automatic models in previous years.

All current HY's have the threaded brass elbow with rubber hose.

Speaking of wastegate does anyone hear another turbo whistle type sound when you reach about 2000 rpm at full throttle? I hear the normal whistle then another one becomes audible. anyone else hear this? I assume it's the wastegate opening. There are so many previously unheard sounds on these new quiet ones.

I hear the high pitch turbo intake whine normally but on hills I get a howl at a lower octave. First time I heard it, I swore it was at the rear of the truck. Maybe turbo music thru the pipe? Maybe a straight thru muffler is in my future

I get the same "lower-octave" whine at certain RPM and load conditions. I'm convinced it's just the turbo.

It's the exhaust side of the turbo. It sounds like a cider jug hoot.

Sounds more like a growl to me. I like it! Makes me feel like I have a tiger in the tank, just like I felt when I drove my 66 goat many years ago!

I noticed some mid RPM noise change on my friends 03 that is straight piped. Wierd.
